Wales

Some Nature Shots

I was inspired by nature in Wales, and here are some of the shots that I like. Three of these are with the 105 mm prime macro, and the bee is focus stacked from four photos.

Spindly Tree

A spindly tree in Portmeirion, Wales.

Damp Forest

Water collects on a leaf in the forest in Portmeirion, Wales.

Hairy Bee

A hairy bee spotted in the flowers at Portmeirion.

Dewy Flower

A dew-covered flower in Portmeirion, Wales.

Caernarfon Castle

Caernarfon Castle

The castle at Caernarfon, a small port town on the northern coast of Wales. The castle dates from the late 13th century. Today it is where the queen invests the Prince of Wales.

I took this from the top of a tower, shown in shadow, with as wide a field as I could muster. Not only is this castle a tourist destination, but it is also a working, ceremonial, and royal site where the Prince of Wales is designated.

Portmeirion

Portmeirion, as a town, is a non sequitur. It takes the style of an Italian village perched on an estuary of the River Dwyryd in the Welch countryside. This photo captures the feeling of the resort, which is beautiful, but one cannot escape its simulated feel.

Portmeirion

The central fountain at Portmeirion, a novelty resort town on the Welsh coast.

The Estuary

The estuary beside Portmeirion is beautiful. I captured a sunrise there the day we were leaving.

Low Tide

The tide is out at Portmeirion, Wales.

Dawn's Light

Dawn's light on the inlet at Portmeirion.

Dawn at Portmeirion

A new day dawns at Portmeirion, Wales. The tide is out and the swimming pool is quiet.

Welch Countryside

Snowdonia Ranch

A sheep ranch (what else?) on the way to Snowdonia Park in northern Wales.

Greenest Valley

Greenest valley I've ever seen, on the road in Wales.

Snowdonia Mountains

Mountains in Snowdonia Park, with sheep pastures wherever they may fit.
